OK, now on to the meeting notes and photos!
Notes from our president, Lynda Faye:
  • Eight attendees spent an hour and a half in constructive group critique as we shared thoughts on projects just begun, projects almost completed, projects being finished and proposed projects.  It was very productive for all.
    • Photos below
  • Then we began “the meeting” and discussed the upcoming Hook-In  September 18th in the Community Center of Shelburne Falls.  Concerns were raised about the Delta Covid variant which is in our area now. The possibility of other variants, as yet unknown, was also raised.  After discussion the group decided we would continue to plan for the Hook-In while acknowledging that we will follow the Covid rules as set by the CDC for gatherings at that time.
    • If we need to cancel, that information will be on our website.
    • On the Hook-In sign up form we will indicate that participants bring their own food and drink. Also on the sign up form we will note that due to Covid, the health situation is fluid, we will follow the CDC recommendations and if cancellation is required it will be posted on our Quabbin website.
    • At the hook-in Quabbin members will disinfect the tables and chairs before and after the event.  We will also have bottled water available.
    • To maintain adequate social distancing, we propose limiting the number of attendees to no more than 40 spread out over the 2 rooms of the community center.
    • There will be no commercial vendors, instead we will bring wool to sell (more instructions on this soon--this means YOU can bring YOUR unwanted wool to sell or donate.  Plan to clear out your wool stash).
    • There will be NO ATHA Rug Registry this year.  We're postponing this but will bring it back, hopefully at next year's event.
  • We also discussed what to do if/when your rug closet is almost full, or how to show and sell your hooked rugs. The topic is a big one and may be on the agenda this fall.
  • We concluded with a lovely suggestion of a rug hooker's dream trip north, and the many places we would stop between Massachusetts and Nova Scotia, like Deanne Fitzpatrick’s, The Rug Museum, and various wool /hooking shops.

During the constructive critique part of the meeting we all showed our rugs and took plenty of advice from each other.  At least four of us were hopelessly stuck on our rugs, each for different reasons.    We got excellent suggestions from everyone.  Here are the pix--enjoy.  (Click on each photo to enlarge, plus read the caption and story by clicking on each)
